[Comments from Oversee Schools]

[ Korea ] Student's Comment

Except Japanese student we had hard time understanding other Asian student's speaking in English . Because they talked too fast and the microphone sounded unclear.

Also we were very sorry that we couldn't talk in live and play video at the same time.

But we had great time there. We felt like being all together as friends. Thank you for giving us such an opportunity to participate in this teleclass meeting.

[ Thailand ]

The Teleclass International Japan, held on February 3,1996, was a very interesting programe that our students were glad to take part in. Opportunities like this one help our students to realize the great importance of communication by electronic mail and videophone and how quickly it is developing. This is also a great chance for them to exchange ideas with other Asian countries, to make many friends and practise speaking English. We believe that this program is advantageous to our students and to all of the countries involved. we would be glad to join it next time if we have the chance. Thank you for the opportunity you gave us and we hope to communicate again in the future.

Students' Comments:

We think it is very interesting to communicate with other country through telecommunications to share our cultures, activities, lives and ideas. It's a wounderful chance having foreign friends to talk and discuss things with. We could gain more experience by exchanging what we have and the other don't, seeing different sides of an issue through the others' point of view. We also learn about other country and to help each other. Most important of all, we could build good friendships that we hope will last forever. We were glad to make friends with other high school students, but we think we'd have known each other better if we had had more chances to talk to one another and ask questions. We would like to share more about ourselves and our lives rather than presenting what we had in each topic to the host and answering the questions we were given. however we're very glad to know and to be friends with you all.

We'd be very happy to join in all of your projects in the future, and we hope you give us the chance to participate in all of them too.

We were very impressed by the scene in which all of us sang together. The song chosen was very good in meaning and feeling. When we were singing, we felt that the differences of nationality, culture and even the delay of sound couldn't separate us or break our friendship. We think this was one of the warmest hours we have ever gone through.

Thank you for inviting us to video conferences.

We had a very good time, and we hope you'll invite us again next time.

Teacher's Comments:

I agree with my students that the teleclass program was very interesting. In fact we enjoyed this exciting and impressive scene so much that we would like to join the program again in the future. It was a very good chance for the students to practising speaking and listening to English, and best of all they made many new friends from other Asian countries.

My students looked forward to the day of the conference but they were disappointed at somethings. They had prepared many topics on which to speak but they didn't know the steps of the conference and felt unprepared. Since Thailand was the first country to be called, they were unsure of the procedures and so they missed some interesting things they wanted to show their friends.

However we are all very interested in this program and think it is an important opportunity for the students. The topics were all interesting, and we would like very much to join it again in the future. Hopefully next year will be even better. It would be of help to all the countries if there are clear schedules and clear information about what to do and how to prepare ourselves beforehand. The last program on February 3, was the first time for us to take part in the conference. We didn't have experience and we knew nothing until the day of the conference. We couldn't imagine what to prepare in advance and nobody could give us any information. Hopefully next year there won't be this confusion. We hope to see you again next time and we believe that this conference is a wonderful idea, and that the future ones will also be a great success!

This is for your evaluation paper. I am Manmart Leesatayakun, a teacher at KUS.

The Most impressive event I think is the whole teleclass event itself. It proved to me that communication is the most important thing. This particular event have shown me that how frustrate people can be when miscommunication occured or communication breakdown. At the beginning, we had problem deviding topics among our students because the time was so short but they had so many things that they want to tell. However, Students do prepared their best. But when the program started, we saw your picture just for a second and right after that the picture back again. With the tachnical problem, our students were always cut off in the middle of their stories. And the second students didn't have chance to tell his/her story, but you turned the pannal to the followings school. Other time, your student throw the question to ours, which I knew that was the indication of turn taking, but our student didn't know that so she answered just briefly, expecting for more conversation before start telling her prepared story, but you might take that as the whole story and change the pannal to other country. That made her feel very sad. They all became very anxious and tried hard to adjust themselves. However, when the teleconference was over, they felt happy to have chance to participate in this program. And talked about how they would better prepare for the program next time.

Eventhough we and our student didn't have must chance to communicate and develope the real sense or frendship through this particular meetimg, we all felt that it was a right beginning. We always realize the importance of cooperation and friendship among young children of our Asian countries.

Moreover, our students in Thailand have learnt to work together just through this event. So I do belive that if all the students from 5 countries participating in this program have chance to work more together, we all would have realized the objectives of this teleclass conference.

All of us would like to participate in this kind of program again. I think my students seem to like to talk more about this same topic. I think because it is the thing closest to them all. We would like to share more on school life.

Thank you very much for putting effort to organize such a program. I can see that it will develope to be a perfect channel to establish friendship among young Asian children. They will learn to appreciate others more and at the same time can appreciate themselves and their own countries. They will learn to understand others and at the same time understand themselves more. So this is a real wonderful program.

Thank you very much again . I am looking forward to seeing all of you again.

Teacher and coordinator

I am a student from Thailand. The most impressive time at the videoconference was the moment the first picture and sound appeared. It wasvery exciting. However, I didn't have much feeling of 'NAKAMA' with other Asian students because we couldn't see each other throughout the conference. If I have the opportunity to do the conference again, I would like us to talk about the same topic. It is an interesting topic. I am eager to participate in the teleconference with Japanese students through e-mail or other means but I didn't have one at home. The students from Osaka school are very friendly and I am so happy to have chance to work with them. I think the program would be better if it can provide more time for each country. Thank you very much.

I am a students from Thailand. The most impressive moment was when I saw our NAKAMA even for a short moment. I didn't have chance to see other friends from other Asian countries. That made me feel quite bad. If I have more opportunities to do video conference, I would like to talk on the same topic. I am interested in telecomunication by e-mail but it is expensive and seems to be difficulty to use. I think this video conference help me to improve my English. But more importance it helps me to gain some friends. Thank you.
